TEEN PEER MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME COHORT 9 APRIL CAMP RECAP: Empowering Teenage Girls Through Mentorship and Community.

Rainbow Room Foundation’s (RRF) commitment to empowering teenage girls continues to shine through our Teen Peer Mentorship (TPM) Programme. From April 6 to April 13, 2025, we hosted the TPM Cohort 9 April Camp at St. Xavier Secondary School, bringing together 31 girls from 12 partner schools across Bungoma County.

The week-long camp was a dynamic fusion of mentoring, learning and community building. The girls covered important topics like the Self and Academics, Sexual and Reproductive Health, First Aid Training, Mental Health, and Menstrual Hygiene accompanied by six(6) Volunteer Young Mentors (VYMs) recruited from Cohort 2-5. Sessions were facilitated by a dedicated team including Dr. Jaki Wasike of LifeSkills Coaching Consultants, Dr. Jane Siminyu, Ms. Alice Njari (Kenya Red Cross), Ms. Paulyne Wanyonyi  of The Artistic Psychologist and Mr. Joseph Makanda of Wezesha Binti Foundation , giving the girls crucial knowledge and life skills.

Community Service:

Beyond mentorship, the camp offered other fun activities. On Saturday of the camp week, the girls rolled up their sleeves to give back to their host school. They took part in a comprehensive cleanup of the St. Xavier school grounds under the direction of the Volunteer Young Mentors(VYMs). Equipped with the necessary tools and teamwork, the girls swept paths, gathered trash, and assisted in cleaning key areas of the school property.

Cultural Night:

One of the most memorable highlights of the camp was the vibrant Cultural Night, where the girls showcased diversity and creativity through traditional songs, dances, and attire. The evening celebrated creativity, unity, diversity and gave each participant the space to express themselves. The occasion was honored by the presence of our CEO Ms. Sophia Wanyonyi and CO-Founder Ms. Paulyn Wanyonyi, who were accompanied by friends and the organization’s Human Resource Manager Ms. Victoria Musimbi. Their presence brought joy and inspiration, as they interacted warmly with the girls, joined in the festivities, and reaffirmed RRF’s support for their journey of growth. The night was filled with perfomances, laughter, color, and connection.

The TPM Cohort 9 April Camp offered the girls space to learn, reflect, and connect in meaningful ways. From thoughtful sessions to hands-on activities and shared experiences like community service and Cultural Night. The week served as a reminder of what young people can accomplish when they feel acknowledged, supported, and inspired to develop together.

We’re already counting down to August, when we’ll meet the girls again to continue from where we left off and check in on what they’ve carried forward from the April camp. Stay tuned for the next chapter of their journey as we follow Cohort 9’s journey and share what the next leg of their mentorship journey brings.

Thanks for reading! We’ll catch you again in August with more updates from Cohort 9 and their amazing journey.
