The Rainbow Room Foundation Book Club sessions have always focused on more than simply reading. They aim to ignite curiosity, foster confidence, and cultivate a lasting passion for books. This April, we were excited to host a special guest whose kindness and presence made a memorable impact on our tweens and staff members.

Mrs. Beatrice Nakholi -County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Education and Industrial Skills Development, Busia County- visited the RRF Library for our April Book Club and she brought gifts with her. In a remarkably considerate act, she gave a set of encyclopedias to enhance the educational experience for our tweens and the broader community. The impact extended beyond just the donation. Mrs. Nakholi dedicated time to involve the children in an energetic, interactive session on utilizing the encyclopedias, transforming what may often appear as “large, daunting books” into something thrilling and approachable. The session focused on clarifying research, and she urged the tweens to view encyclopedias as resources not only for school projects but also for enjoyment, curiosity, and expanding their knowledge on topics that intrigue them.
The session was not only informative, it was a valuable experience. The tweens were organized into groups and allowed to look up topics within the encyclopedias. They outlined their discoveries and subsequently shared their results, transforming what might have been a dull reading session into an energetic display of creativity and collaboration.

Adding to the day, Mrs. Nakholi was accompanied by her two daughters Angel and Ariana, who took part in the session. Their presence added a feeling of warmth and relatability, contributing to making the session more engaging and enjoyable. Collectively, they motivated the tweens to tackle the big book that is the encyclopedia with interest instead of apprehension. Clarifying that reading can serve many purposes: research, fun, or simply expanding one’s knowledge.
Mrs. Nakholi’s visit was a powerful reminder that when learning is shared and supported, it becomes not only impactful but also joyful.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Nakholi for her generous donation of encyclopedias and for taking the time to engage so meaningfully with our tweens. Her passion for learning and dedication to nurturing young minds left a lasting impression, and her contribution will continue to inspire for years to come.
