Our August TPM camp was nothing short of amazing. A week filled with meaningful sessions, lasting friendships and unforgettable experiences.

This August TPM camp was all about building on what our girls have been learning so far. The sessions covered were Mental Health, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Academics and Menstrual Hygiene facilitated by Ms. Lucy Simiyu, Dr. Jane Siminyu, Dr. Jaki Wasike of LifeSkills Coaching Consultants and Mr. Joseph Makanda of Wezesha Binti Foundation. Because of the engaging and relatable nature of these sessions, the girls left feeling not only better informed but also more capable of using and implementing what they had learned in their everyday lives.

Adventures Outside the Classroom: One of the biggest highlights was our TPM camp trip. The excitement was contagious from the moment the bus rolled into Saint Xavier. Exploring new places together gave the girls a chance to see a world beyond their usual surroundings and more importantly, connect what they had been learning to real-life experiences.

Our TPMs had a deeper look at history, culture, and nature on the first day when we visited the Kitale Museum and Ndura Farm. The focus of day two was inspiration. Our girls were given a tour of the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) campus, given information about various courses and encouraged to have high aspirations for their academic careers. Finally, they went to the Nabongo Cultural Centre, where they studied the history, leadership and influence of the Wanga Kingdom on the region.
These experiences, particularly at MMUST, gave them knowledge and inspiration for the future by bringing to life the academic lessons they had learned from Dr. Jaki Wasike.

Bonding(Moments that Connected Us): Whether it was watching movies, listening to music, sharing stories or creating fun content, the camp provided our TPMs with time to just be together/bonding outside of the sessions and excursions. By the end of the week, it felt more like family than camp.
Grateful to Saint Xavier: We are really grateful to Saint Xavier for their kind hospitality during the camp. The girls had the ideal setting to study and have fun in a welcoming and safe setting.
Until Next Time: The August TPM camp served as a reminder of what makes the TPM Programme so unique. It provides girls with the opportunity to develop, learn and dream while creating lifelong connections and memories. We’re happy with the efforts the girls are making to become their best self as we anticipate the camp and graduation in November.
And just like that another TPM camp is in the books! The girls left with new lessons, fresh motivation and plenty of stories to tell their friends back home. If August is any indication, November TPM camp (and graduation) will be even bigger, better and promising.
Thanks for reading! We’ll catch you again in November with more updates from the girls of Cohort 9 and their amazing journey.🙏🏾
