Over 400 Wazee (elderly) people of our community came together to rejoice, dance, and connect at the Rainbow Room Foundation’s annual end-of-year party on December 14, 2024. This happy and warm gathering was the epitome of the sense of belonging and community that our Elderly programme works to foster.
Our guests were serenaded by the captivating and lively performance from Micah Wanyenje. His lively renditions of Bukusu songs, including his well-loved hit, “Niamshe Tucheze Polepole,” moved the crowd to their feet and oh was it heartening to witness the elderly dancing freely and with energetic enthusiasm, their joy and spirit on the dance floor clearly showing that they had “two left feet” simply did not apply that day! They enthusiastically participated in various dance styles, including the vibrant twisti and the cultural Kamabeka dance, where they joyfully shook their shoulders, amplifying the festive atmosphere. The Rainbow Room grounds, transformed into a vibrant centre of celebration as music filled the air.
Along with the dancing and music, the event included an important health talk led by nutritionist Ms. Bibiana Khaemba.Her enlightening talk covered lifestyle disease management and emphasised the value of routine checkups with the doctors, making sure our senior attendees understood how to maintain their health. She also facilitated an interactive Q&A session that allowed the Wazee to voice their concerns and seek advice, making the session informative and empowering. This portion of the event fostered a supportive atmosphere, that allowed the elderly to engage with important health topics that directly affect their lives.
And in an effort to share happiness and make sure that everyone felt appreciated and loved over the holiday season, we gave care packages full of necessities to them in the spirit of Christmas.
As we look back on this great occasion, we want to sincerely thank everyone who joined us. We appreciate your participation. It’s in this moments that we are reminded of the value of connection and community, especially among our Wazee. At the Rainbow Room Foundation, we are dedicated to continuing our support and engagement with the senior citizens in our community through meaningful events like our annual end-of-year celebration.
